a) May (As a request):
- May I help you?
- Translation:
- کیا میں آپ کی مدد کروں؟
- May I come in, Sir?
- Translation:
- کیا مجھے اندر آنے کی اجازت ہے؟
- May I leave now?
- Translation:
- کیا اب میں جا سکتا ہوں؟
- May I know your name?
- Translation:
- کیا میں آپ کا اسم گرامی جان سکتا ہوں؟
- May I borrow your computer for some days?
- Translation:
- کیا چند دنوں کے لیے آپ کا کمپیوٹر مجھے ادھار مل سکتا ہے؟
b) May ( As permission to do something ):
( کسی کام کی اجازت دینے کے لیے استعمال کرتے ہیں ):
- You may go now.
- Translation:
- اب آپ جا سکتے ہیں۔
- You may come.
- Translation:
- آپ تشریف لا سکتے ہیں۔
- Tell the students that she/he may come now.
- Translation:
- طالبہ / طالب علم سے کہو کہ اب وہ آ سکتی /سکتا ہے۔
- You may follow me.
- Translation:
- آپ میری پیروی کر سکتے ہیں۔

a) May ( Allah ):
{ For some good wishes or curses. We use Allah while others ( non-believers ) use God & sometimes Omit }:
( نیک خواہش یا بد دعا کے لیے بولاجاتا ہے ، ہم اللہ جبکہ دوسرے God کہتے ہیں)۔
- May Allah bless you with a son!
- Translation:
- !اللہ آپ کو بیٹے سے نوازے
- May you succeed in exams!
- Translation:
- !خدا کرے آپ امتحان میں کامیاب ہوں
- May Allah bless him with health!/Allah may bless him with health!
- Translation:
- !خدا اس کو صحت عطا فرمائے
- May Allah rest the departed soul in peace!
- Translation:
- !اللہ مرحوم کو جوار ِ رحمت میں جگہ دے
- May Allah almighty bless your late father with eternal peace!
- Translation:
- !اللہ تعالیٰ آپ کے مرحوم والد پر اپنی دائمی رحمت فرمائے
( بد دعا سے پر ہیز کریں )۔
- May Allah plague on him!
- Translation:
- اس پر خدا کی مار ہو۔
- May Allah curse on him!
- Translation:
- اس پر خدا کی لعنت ہو۔

a) May have + 3rd Verb :
( To show some probability in present perfect ):
( زمانہ حال مکمل یعنی ماضی قریب میں کسی امکان کو ظاہر کرنے کے لیے ):
- She may have come back.
- Translation:
- شاید وہ واپس آچکی ہو۔
- You may have been here before.
- Translation:
- شاید آپ یہاں پہلے بھی آئے ہوں۔
- You may have met my younger brother.
- Translation:
- ممکن ہے آپ میرے چھوٹے بھائی سے ملے ہوں۔
- You may have that drama.
- Translation:
- آپ نے وہ ڈراما دیکھا ہو گا۔
- You may have seen a hare and a tortoise.
- Translation:
- آپ نے کچھوے اور خر گوش کو دیکھا ہوگا۔
- You may not have heard that story.
- Translation:
- امید ہے کہ آپ نے وہ کہانی نہیں سنی ہو گی۔
- You may not have seen such a beautiful sight before.
- Translation:
- ممکن ہے آپ نے ایسا خوبصورت منظر پہلے کبھی نہیں دیکھا ہو۔
- The baby may not have been to London before.
- Translation:
- امید ہے کہ بچہ پہلے لندن نہیں گیا ہو گا۔

- Translation:
- شاید آپ نے انگلش تلفظ پر میری پہلی کتاب نہ دیکھی ہو۔

Might ( Simple past ):
( Note that might is the 2nd form of may ).
a) S + might + 1V
- She might come in time.
- Translation:
- شاید وہ وقت پر آگئی تھی۔
- He might not help you.
- Translation:
- شاید وہ آپ کی مد د نہ کرتا۔
- I told him that he might go.
- Translation:
- میں نے اسے بتا دیا کہ وہ جا سکتا ہے۔
- He worked hard so that he might pass.
- Translation:
- اس نے محنت کی تاکہ وہ پاس ہو جائے / ہو سکے۔
b) S + might + be + n / adj / adjectival noun
(might کے بعد نام یا صفت یا صفتی نام ، تینوں میں سے کسی ایک کا استعمال کر سکتے ہیں)
- He might be your brother.
- Translation:
- شاید وہ آپ کا بھائی تھا۔
- He might not be happy.
- Translation:
- شاید وہ خوش نہ تھا۔
- She might be a famous doctor.
- Translation:
- وہ شاید ایک مشہور ڈاکٹر تھی۔
- He might be very busy on the days of the examination.
- Translation:
- امتحان کے دنوں میں ممکن ہے کہ وہ بہت مصروف تھا۔

( Past conditional Active ):
- If I had gone there. I might have met him.
- Translation:
- اگر میں وہاں چلا جاتا تو شاید سے مل لیتا۔
- If you had worked hard, you might have got a scholarship.
- Translation:
- اگر آپ محنت کرتے تو ممکن تھا کہ وظیفہ لے لیتے۔
- If you had taken the syrup, it might have cured your cough very soon.
- Translation:
- اگر آپ یہ شربت پی لیتے تو آپ کو کھانسی سے بہت جلد آرام آجاتا۔
- He might not have got cold if he had a coat.
- Translation:
- اگراس کے پاس کوٹ ہوتا تو شاید اس کو زکام نہ ہوتا۔
( Past ): Might have been + adj / 3rd v
- If it had rained, the crops might have been good.
- Translation:
- اگر آپ بارش ہو جاتی تو شاید فصلیں اچھی ہوتیں۔
- If I had reached there, the guest might have been served very well.
- Translation:
- اگر میں وہاں پہنچ جاتا تو مہمان کی خدمت بہت اچھی طر ح ممکن تھی۔
